I joined SMH Group at 16, right after completing my GCSEs, and have now been with the company for just over three years. I started in an entry-level role, handling basic tasks such as scanning client documents and performing bank reconciliations, all while studying for my AAT Level 2 exams. As I progressed in my qualifications, my responsibilities grew, and I began working on more complex tasks. Today, I am able to apply the skills and knowledge I gained during that time to mentor new apprentices, helping them navigate their own journeys. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching myself grow during my time at SMH so far, as I’ve steadily advanced in my career while progressing through my AAT studies. Combining hands-on experience and academic development has been incredibly rewarding, and I’m proud of the progress I’ve made in both areas.
What I appreciate most about working at SMH is the supportive and friendly work environment. I always know I can turn to a colleague with any question, big or small, and I will never feel judged for seeking help. This positive office culture has helped to strengthen my knowledge and boost my confidence, benefitting me both professionally and personally. The support from my colleagues and managers has allowed me to explore various areas of accounting, from bookkeeping to audit, helping me shape my career path and determine the direction of my studies.
