On 12 October 2022, Eastenders legend Shaun Williamson hosted the sold-out black tie Love Chesterfield awards at the Winding Wheel Theatre. SMH Group were delighted to be one of the sponsors for the event and have the opportunity to present the award of Best New High Street Business to an up and coming local entrepreneur.
As judges of this award, members of our team were tasked with a secret shopping experience with the three finalists, assessing their customer service and overall experience to enable us to decide on the winner.

After much deliberation, we were thrilled to present the award to the well-deserved winner MD Hair, based at Sheffield Road’s Glass Yard.
The award was presented by SMH Group Partner, Jonathon Dickens, who comments: “We’re delighted to be one of the sponsors at this year’s awards. SMH Group has a big presence in Chesterfield, and it is a business community very close to our hearts, so it felt right for us to not just be involved as a sponsor, but to also play a part in judging an award.
“There are so many fantastic new high street businesses in Chesterfield, which are helping to boost the local economy and keep footfall into the town centre high, and we are big believers of promoting entrepreneurship at SMH.
“It was a tough decision to decide on the overall winner of the Best New High Street Business award, but after visiting each one and reviewing the overall customer experience we unanimously decided that MD Hair would be our winner. A big well done to Michelle and her team!”
Owner of MD Hair, Michelle Dalman, said: “It feels absolutely amazing to win the award! I am so proud of my team and myself. The team have been key to winning the award and they make sure everyone has an amazing experience when they come into the salon.”
