Sutton McGrath Hartley (SMH), the Yorkshire and Derbyshire based firm of Accounting & Business Advisory and business advisers, have raised £2,330 for their charity of the year, the South Yorkshire branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA), at their first annual charity golf day which took place at Chesterfield Golf Club on 13th August 2021.
The Texas Scramble format tournament included 14 teams of four competing for a range of prizes on the day, with the team from Home & Beauty Ltd being crowned the overall winner.
Organised by James Furniss of SMH Commercial Finance, the day gave close contacts of the firm a great opportunity to take up some long overdue in-person networking, as well as being the catalyst to raise funds for a very deserving local charity close to the hearts of many SMH employees across the group.

James Furniss, Head of SMH Commercial Finance comments: “Networking opportunities have been few and far between over the past 18 months, so we’re delighted to have been able to launch what will become our annual charity golf day, where we can connect with a large number of clients and contacts of the firm in a relaxed and informal setting.
“We have a lot of keen (and competitive) golfers at SMH, which made for a very entertaining time, especially with on course competitions, such as closest to the pin, taking place throughout the day!
“SMH have been supporting the local branch of MNDA over the past couple of years, so it’s great that we’ve been able to hold such a big event and raise this much money for the charity. We’d like to extend our thanks to the charity team who helped out on the day with the raffle, as well as some fantastic local organisations who donated raffle prizes, some of which we were able to auction off due to their high value.
“A big well done to the team from Home & Beauty Ltd who finished in first place, closely followed by Begbies Traynor and Verto Tech in second and third place. We’re looking forward to next year’s event already.”
Christine Naylor, Secretary of MNDA South Yorkshire Branch adds: “The raffle, together with the “Hit the Green” bets and other fundraising taking place across the day raised a total of £2,330 thanks to the generosity of SMH and the golfers, which is a real boost to funds at a time when our income has depleted due to COVID.
“Thank you for choosing to support the MNDA charity and in doing so, enabling us to continue to help people living with MND in the South Yorkshire area.”
