Tax refunds for sports professionals
At SMH Chartered Accountants we can help in advising professional athletes and sports players on their eligibility to claim tax refunds on their expenses. In many cases, this can include travel costs, subsistence, accommodation, and laundry costs.
If you’re a sports professional, it’s likely that you’re entitled to certain tax refunds that you may not even be aware of. This could include refunds on travel expenses, equipment, and even certain clothing. At SMH, we have extensive experience in helping sports professionals to navigate the complexities of tax law and claim back any refunds they are owed.
Who can claim?
Any professional or semi-professional sports player can claim a tax rebate if using their own vehicle on any of the following:
Travel expenses to:
- Away games
- Reserve games
- Training grounds
- Home games (if on loan from another club)
- Medical centres for injury treatment
Expense claims can also be made on any of the following:
- Kit and laundry costs
- Subsistence
- Accommodation
How far back can claims be made?
If a previous claim hasn’t been made, it can be possible to claim a tax rebate for historical expenses during the last four years.
How do you know if you can make a claim?
There is no cost from SMH to find out if you are eligible to make a claim. If there is a claim to be made, then SMH will deal with everything on your behalf until the tax refund has been made.
Our fees
We only charge a fee once a successful claim is made. Our fee is tailored to your specific requirements and will be agreed with you before any work is undertaken.
